The Horvat Family Foundation

The Horvat Family Foundation, founded by Petra and Darko Horvat, is dedicated to shaping a better world through learning, encouragement, and solidarity. With vision and compassion, the foundation focuses on aiding underprivileged children and those whose parents have financial hardship.

The foundation supports initiatives such as scholarships for students in need, financial assistance to parents facing challenges, and support for various projects dedicated to helping vulnerable children and providing scholarships and financial support to talented young individuals.

At its inception in 2002, the foundation concentrated its efforts on the Štajerska region in the northeastern part of Slovenia, with annual adjustments to address evolving needs. The foundation’s goals encompass providing psycho-social, financial and material assistance, while developing individual aid projects, and fostering self-reliance.

Noteworthy activities include founding the Materinski dom Maribor (maternity home), counseling centre for victims of violence, and diverse youth centres. The foundation’s impact is evident in improved situations for vulnerable groups, with a focus on cultivating optimism, processing hardships, and developing essential life skills.

Over the years, the Horvat family foundation has made a significant difference, socially assisting countless endangered individuals and families.

In 2012, the foundation donated a facsimile of 17th-century artist, Johann Weichard Freiherr von Valsavor’s masterpiece collection to the University of Cambridge. The 17-volume Iconotheca Valvasoriana was reproduced by the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences in conjunction with the Metropolitan Library of Zagreb. The donated works were exhibited in the University Library’s North Front corridor from December 2012 to February 2013.
